Undoolya Creek, Alice Springs, 8 September, 8pm, $10/7
performers: Robin Fox, Sumugan Sivanesan & robert Curgenven, Anthony Magen & J9 Stanton
Outdoor surround-sound concert featuring interstate and local talent in the gorgeous natural setting of Undoolya Creek, a few kilometres east of Alice Springs. Presenting: Robin Fox (Melb) and his jawdropping audio-controlled laser spectacular; Sumugan Sivanesan (Syd - guitar) and Robert Curgenven (NT - field recordings and harmonics) in a beautiful duo capturing the sound and space of the desert; and Anthony Magen (Melb - custom-made instruments and field recordings) and J9 Stanton (NT - singing saw) combining unique and new sounds in their first improvised meeting.

Directions:
Travel East on Undoolya Rd. Turn left 3.2km Past the Cattle grid at edge of town, look for an old tyre (if you reach Undoolya cattle station you have gone too far). then travel 1.5km North along track that follows the creek bed (don't cross the creek).

Fannie Bay Gaol, Darwin, 26 September, 9pm, $10/8

Following from the success of "surrounder" in WWII Oil Tunnels in 2006, and set in the awe-inspiring Cell Blocks A&B at the heritage listed Fannie Bay Gaol, surrealestate promises a night to remember featuring international, interstate and local musicians. Seated in the round with speakers throughout the former maximum security Cell Block, featuring Darwin local Blastcorp (guitar and processing) and on the first leg of his national tour, Jason Kahn from Switzerland will perform a solo set for analog synthesizer and percussion as well as a one-off improvised duo with Robert Curgenven (NT, field recordings and instrumental harmonics). Lighting and site design by Katie Hepworth and Tanja Kimme. And also an additional sound performance in the gallows room...

Featuring: a short film program from Australia and Europe featuring innovative explorations of sound and video; the debut performance of "Islands:Crossings" the first part of a multiple-site project over three countries, presented in this first stage as a surround sound performance of audiovisual material collected around Alice Springs by festival artists during Sounds Unusual; and also the hugely popular improvised music night.
